Dr Alexander Dix is the Chairman of the International Working Group on Data Protection in Telecommunications, having been involved with the Working Group since its inception. He was born in Bad Homburg in 1951 and studied Law in Bochum, Hamburg and London, being awarded Master of Law (LL.M.) - University of London in 1977. He became Scientific Adviser at Hans-Bredow-Institut for Broadcasting and the University of Hamburg and in 1984 was appointed as Dr. of Jurisprudence at the University of Hamburg. He has been legal adviser to the city of Heidelberg and subsequently to the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection.
In 1990 he was appointed Deputy Data Protection Commissioner for the city of Berlin and in 1998 Commissioner for Data Protection and Access to Information for the State of Brandenburg.
In 2005 he was elected to his present position of Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information for the city of Berlin.
